Structure of our club training rides
Our ABR cycle club rides are structured to help improve your cycling ability and build the confidence you need, suitable for all riders within the ABR cycle team. All our rides are group-focused, with everyone working as a team and supporting each other throughout our club journey.
No rider is left behind on club rides, and we always ride at the slowest cyclist's pace. We also don't allow riders to push too hard at the front, as it breaks up the group. We are a cycle team-focused club. Structuring our rides this way ensures your cycle training is at the right intensity and develops correctly, helping you improve your cycling abilities.
We train as a cycle team regardless of ability, fitness or skills. We are not about fast-paced rides; instead, we focus on developing your cycling skills so you can go faster with confidence. We are a team, not just a club.
Breakfast Rides
This is our easy group ride day, a more relaxed-paced ride that will include a cafe stop for you to have a drink, enjoy a bite to eat, and socialise with other club members. This is a great way to bond with your team in a relaxed setting.
You still get the benefit of cycle miles, but on a more social basis. After you leave the cafe, you can ride back to HQ as hard as you like or as easy as you want. The choice is yours.
There is no set training for these rides.
Slowest rider's pace to the cafe.
Always a cafe stop
Free Style Cycle Rides
Our Free Style cycle rides are designed to give you the confidence and skills, but there is no set training or pace to the cycle ride.
Rides at "group feel pace" which will help you grow your confidence riding in groups and advance your cycling fitness. Free Style cycle rides are a basic form of group ride, with some fun added by different members. There will still be a NO ONE left behind policy.
Pace: Group decides, slowest rider's pace
Intensity: mixed
Goal: Fun, chat and team building
Development Cycle Rides
Our development cycle rides are for cyclists who have been riding for more than a year and have some experience riding in groups.
The rides are a little more intense and training-focused, but still retain a comfortable feel. During the rides, there will be sections where you will push harder and practice your cycling training techniques, such as hill climbing, sprints, teamwork, pursuit riding, and more.
Pace: mixed
Intensity: medium to hard effort
Goal: Improving your cycling skills
Performance Cycle Rides
ABR Cycle Performance Rides allows riders to train at a higher intensity, work closely as a team, and manage a significant training load for their cycle ride.
These rides are designed to incorporate all your development cycle training at a more intense pace. It will help improve endurance and intensity, push you as a group harder, and increase your cycling fitness to its maximum.
Performance cycle training rides are more intense; you will get a real buzz and satisfaction from completing our ABR performance cycle training rides.
- Pace: fast
- Intensity: hard
- Goal: perfecting cycle ability at pace
- When: Wednesday evening (April to September)

Cycle Training Camps can boost your training miles and cycling ability.
ABR cycle team wants to create a real team atmosphere, not just on local training rides but also during cycle training camps. Training together over several days can boost your cycling performance. Whole days on the bike where riders can put the miles in their legs, then relax with their teammates over a nice drink and meal.
Generally, Camps are over 2 days and cover more than 100 miles of cycling. Based on 2 sharing a twin room, and are on a self-catering basis.
